I was impressed by Terry Wise’s presentation. She speaks poignantly to those of us who are struggling with mental illness, as well as to the professionals and family members who want so much to understand and help us. She brings a remarkable sense of “normalcy” to mental illness, making it seem plausible that it can happen to anyone and that anyone can commit to the work required to get well. She shares with us the necessity of not just medication, but of a connection with a skilled professional who has not forgotten what it means to be human.
