THE MENNINGER CLINIC

Pamela K. Greene, Ph.D., R.N.
Chief Nursing Officer & Vice President of Patient Care Services

Dear Terry:

I want to express my gratitude to you for the incredible impact you made at our fourth annual community luncheon. We invited people from Houston with diverse backgrounds, with the goals of raising awareness about mental health and The Menninger Clinic. Presenting something that will resonate with this audience can be a challenge for the most seasoned speaker. Focusing on suicide makes the challenge exponentially more complicated.

You not only rose to the challenge, you exceeded our expectations. You connected with audience members with your exquisite sensitivity and complete candor. People felt so at ease and at the same time captivated with a difficult, often painful and personal subject. The stigma and secrecy that so often surrounds suicide were put aside. Attendees described experiencing relief, hearing suicide discussed openly, without blame or shame.

At the risk of sounding overly ambitious, we, at The Menninger Clinic, are pursuing a research initiative that could potentially change how suicidality is treated. The outcomes will not only benefit patients at Menninger, but possibly be used globally. Individuals in attendance were inspired by your presentation, and made generous contributions toward our suicide research which is now, thanks to you, ready to launch.

We hope to have you return to Houston and assist us in presenting a workshop for mental health professionals and consumers.

Warm Regards,

Pamela K. Greene, Ph.D., R.N.
